Little by little we move forward but still have a long ways to go! Donations of any size are always accepted and are still greatly needed to finish the fairgrounds and buildings on time!

SCI has the footing in the ground for the new 4-H and FFA enrichment center! While they were here, we needed the tractor pull track re worked and packed, so they jumped right on it to take care of that for us. PCW is working on leveling off the large livestock building. We also had fair board volunteers mowing the grass and killing weeds. We are so excited to see the progress on our new fairgrounds!

Progress Update

December 2023

Lots happening at the new fairgrounds!

Denver Underground has completed all sewer and is currently working on the water with anticipated completion in a couple weeks! The foundation walls have been completed for the free entertainment stage which is located in the NW corner of the property along 39th St. In the spring we will put a cap over the stage floor and then raise the roof in the summer. We are currently working on a 110’x220’ livestock building completing the foundation over the next couple weeks; as money continues to come in, we will then look at erecting the building.

What has already been completed this summer is two parking lots and the pit parking lot that were not scheduled but because we were able to partner with the DOT on the Hwy 3 shoulder project, we were able to put 12,000 tons of rock down. What a blessing!

As an extra bonus, the fairboard worked on 44 camping spots that will be available to the public in 2024 in the NE corner of the property.

Grounds Update

Sept. 2023

More progress at the new fairgrounds! The highway 3 shoulder project gave us the opportunity to build the pit parking lot, and the south parking areas with the old gravel they needed to remove. A lot of the work was done by volunteers and equipment borrowed from PCW, Chad Heim Excavating, and Smith Excavating.

Smith Excavating should be done with the storm water drain system soon, and we are excited for the next phases to begin.

READLYN COUPLE MAKES DONATION FOR CONSTRUCTION

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 1, 2023

READLYN COUPLE MAKES DONATION FOR CONSTRUCTION ON NEW BREMER COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS

Waverly, IA – Ron and Judy Leistikow of Readlyn have made a donation and financial commitment to begin the initial construction of the 4H and FFA Exhibits Complex on the new Bremer County Fairgrounds. This new building will house the projects exhibited by county 4H and FFA members during the fair, auctions in the off season, as well as special events.

“We feel that the time has come to step up and help the new fairgrounds become a reality. The fair has been a large part of our lives for over 70 years. Our six children participated in 4H and FFA showing livestock as well as giving presentations and exhibiting projects in areas such as baking, sewing and crops. We now want to help other young people grow and learn the four H’s: Head, Heart, Hands, and Health,” said Judy Leistikow.

Adds Ron Leistikow, “We love the location of the new fairgrounds. The Lord has been good to us and it’s time for us to give back. My family has had many wonderful experiences at the county fairs over the years and we hope the fair will continue to impact the lives of many in the area.”

Ron was a 4H member as a youth, became a 4H leader, and served on the fair board for 30 years, including 10 years as its president. Ron and Judy have been lifelong proponents of agriculture and strong supporters of both the 4H and FFA organizations.

Information on the proposed fairground buildings can be found at www.bremercountyfair.com

For more information on donation opportunities call Roy Peterson at 319.961.2535.

Give the Gift of Grain to Support the Fair!

Why Donate Grain??

Your harvest can help your community and help build the new Bremer County Fairgrounds, east of Waverly. Farmers can turn gifts of agricultural commodities such as corn and soybeans into a donation for its construction. By providing a portion of what you’ve grown, you’re investing in the future of our future generations of 4-H/FFA youth and our citizens.

What are the Benefits of Gifting Grain??

For farm operators, gifting grain directly, versus selling the grain and making a gift from the proceeds, may provide a more significant tax savings. Giving a gift of a commodity means that this is a sale that your business never realized. Contributing unsold crop inventory allows you to avoid the sale of the commodity as income and will not be recorded on your taxes, while the production costs may still be deductible. Reducing taxable income may provide advantages such as minimizing or eliminating self-

employment tax and reducing adjusted gross income.

A donor should always consult with their tax preparer or financial advisor to determine the tax implications

before making a charitable gift of grain.

Timing of the gift??

Many grain farmers annually certify or document bushels of productions with Risk Management Agency (RMA)/Crop Insurance Agents for purposes of enrolling in various agriculture subsidy programs. It is important to visit with RMA before making a gift of grain commodities to any organization.

Another great benefit of donating grain is that it doesn’t matter if the donation is made in the year of production or a later date. Gifts of grain can be donated from the current year or previous harvest at anytime during the tax year.

So How Does It Work??

Choosing to donate a gift of grain to the Bremer County Fair Association (BCFA) is simple. To ensure compliance with tax laws, farmers wishing to donate a commodity should follow these guidelines:

1. After checking with your tax advisor, notify the Bremer County Fair Association (BCFA) of your intended gift by phoning or writing us (see our contact below). Describe what the commodity is, and the quantity being contributed. Retain a copy of the letter for your records. (The gift should be from unsold crop inventory with no sale commitment made prior to the gift.

2. The Bremer County Fair Association will set up an account at the elevator you intend to use.

3. Transfer the bushels of grain as a gift to the Bremer County Fair Association (BCFA) by having the elevator send a warehouse storage receipt to BCFA. The elevator’s receipt must show the BCFA as the owner of the grain and your name on it in the body of the receipt. Important: Please notify the BCFA when you have delivered the grain to the elevator.

4. The BCFA will provide you with a donation receipt for your gift. Do not report the donation on your tax forms as you are not entitled to any additional deduction. The tax benefit comes from deducting your production expenses as usual.

5. The BCFA will sell the grain and receive the proceeds. Any sales invoice will name the BCFA as the seller of the grain. Per Internal Revenue Service (IRS) rules, it is necessary that the BCFA had “dominion and control” of the commodity.

Thank You!

Press Release

12/31/19

It is with great anticipation and excitement that we announce the new home for the Bremer County Fair.

The Bremer County Fair Association recently voted to relocate the Bremer County Fairgrounds to Waverly’s east side, positioned within the city limits. The parcel, 50+ acres, will be adequate for the fair today and for future growth.

Members of the BCFA have been searching for the perfect fit, for the entire region. Over the past years, the criteria shifted and recently voiced at a special listening post held in Waverly on November 18, 2019.

The new fairgrounds will have state of the art structures available for a variety of entertainment activities including 4H and FFA programs. It will be a multi-use, top-notch facility that leaders hope will bring the entire county together.

Thank you for supporting the Bremer County Fair.
