"My involvement with the Bremer County Fair began as a Waverly Jaycee back in 1998 as the Waverly Jaycees assisted the Fair board with the operation of the beer tent at the Bremer County Fair. During the 1998 fair and subsequent fairs, I really enjoyed helping at the fair and getting to meet all the people that attended the fair. As the Waverly Jaycees and the Bremer County Fair board continued this partnership, I grew more interested in getting involved in the operation of the Fair and was ultimately voted in as a director of the Bremer County Fair board in 2002.
I enjoy being involved in the business side of fair and trying to find innovative ways to better the Fair for the coming year. However, my main reason for staying active in the fair is trying to make a difference in the lives of the kids and elderly of the local community. That is why I am very committed to continuing to offer guided tours of the fair to the local daycare facilities and Bartels Home residents. I first attended the Bremer County Fair as a 6 year old boy. I remember that great day sitting on the hillside next to the commercial exhibit building (now the Horse Barn) watching Chuck Hesse and Dick Buss and many others pull their tractors at the tractor pull that day and thinking how lucky I was that I got to attend this great fair. Now I hope I can help provide those same types of memories for the young kids that attend the fair today and in the future.
Looking forward, I am extremely excited about the newly planned fairgrounds and ball diamond facility and all the opportunities this new venture will provide the local community. These newly planned event facilities are like no other with their shared facilities layout. To embark on such an innovative design layout is truly a special time for Bremer County."
