Iowa Learning Farms presents the Conservation Station—a mobile learning center that educates audiences of all ages on different conservation aspects.
The back of the Conservation Station houses a rainfall simulator demonstrating the effects of rainfall on undisturbed soils with a variety of soil covers and impervious and porous surfaces. The front part of the Conservation Station is a learning center with interchangeable learning modules covering topics such as soil, water, and wetlands.
Through demonstrations, dialogue, computer animations, interactive activities, video and sound, the Conservation Station teaches people of all ages why Iowa’s water and soils are precious and how they can help protect these natural resources. Its rainfall simulator illustrates the effects of rainfall on the land, collecting surface water runoff and subsurface drainage on various land surfaces both urban and rural.
