Board Headed to Des Moines
With cold, snow and Christmas right outside our windows, many of the members of the Bremer County Fair Association, along with their spouses, are headed to Des Moines this weekend to continue planning for one week in hot and steamy August. The Asociation of Iowa Fairs annual Conference is December 9 - 11. Fairs from all over the state will be sending representatives to hear key note speakers, participate in discussions relavent to 2012 fairs, meet with vendors and entertainers, and share ideas.
Highlights for members vary depending on their favorite fair event. There is a professional-level "showcasing" for the music lover - a 3 1/2 hour event where entertainers are given 15 mintues to showcase all they have to offer a fair. Hundreds of Associate Members - pullers, racers, jugglers, talent agencies, rodeos - fill the rooms of the Airport Holiday Inn Conference Center. They are there to answer questions, show what they have to offer and sign contracts.
There are business meetings, round-table discussions, panel discussions, and seminars all designed to help board members share ideas, be aware of legistlation changes and current fair trends. Spending the weekend with 1200-1300 other individuals who are passionate about their county fair puts the fun in every single event.
